Rachel Leigh Cook: “I’m Aspiring Green”

Rachel Leigh Cooksays that she has a long way to go ’til she’s as eco-savvy as she wants to be, though we think that she’s already setting a pretty awesome example for anyone who wants to treat the environment better. In fact, her efforts are quite impressive. Case in point:

“I’m a borderline obsessive-compulsive recycler,” Rachel tells eco-fashion mag Coco Eco this month. “That’s probably my main green effort. I can’t even throw the lid to a soda cup at a movie theater in the garbage can when I’m done. I will shake it off and wipe it on my jeans and put it in my purse and recycle it when I go home. I can’t consciously not recycle.”

Rachel’s explanation for her vigilant recycling efforts? She says she’s only doing her part- and making up for others who haven’t yet caught on to the green movement.

It’s the right thing to do. I’m consistently surprised to see people who want to tempt fate with their beliefs about the myth of global warming. That’s really terrifying to me. So I think I have to overcompensate for some people who aren’t with the program.”

So what’s next on Rachel’s green agenda? Well, there’s her budding interest in green fashion (check out the Coco Eco shoot to see the eco-friendly designs that she wears) and one more big plan in the works…

I’m going to try to compost. My pickier neighbor has since moved away, so if my efforts are a bit smelly I think my new neighbors will understand.”

We think it’s fun to see celebs doing their part for the Earth in little (and yes, unglamorous) ways. I’ll probably think of Rachel the next time I recycle a bottle, knowing that, somewhere, she probably has a soda lid in her purse, waiting to be recycled!
