Josie Maran: From Supermodel to Green Role Model
As a former beauty editor who’s obsessed with organic products, I have a serious soft spot for Josie Maran. The supermodel launched her eponymous beauty line, Josie Maran Cosmetics, in the fall of 2007 and each season continues to create more amazing, natural and eco-friendly makeup.
I’m sure, as a supermodel, Josie could have just as easily chosen a life with a little more ’sex drugs and rock ‘n’ roll,’ but it seems that she’s taken the opposite route. According to Coco Eco magazine, Josie lives a laid-back, environmentally-friendly existence in a quiet home in the Hollywood Hills with her boyfriend and three-year-old daughter. You’d see organic foods in the kitchen, compost out back, recycled, reused furnishings and a Prius in the driveway.
“My home is a barn. Well, at least the wood that frames our doorways, hallways and the little staircase that leads up to our attic. It came from a family friend’s barn that was torn down and we reclaimed it!”
Her family and friends make up a large percentage of the staff of Josie Maran Cosmetics, and she sees the group as a ‘think tank’ for green products of the future.
“My mission is to keep green cool,” says Josie. “The outdoors is my inspiration.”
Josie’s favorite causes include Global Green USA, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the National Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, PETA and Healthy Child Healthy World.
She tells Coco Eco, “I’m going to change the world, one lipstick at a time.”
