Cameron Diaz Makes An Eco- Documentary

Cameron Diaz’s new environmental documentary is a must-see. The actress crossed the country, talking to Americans about the environment and all the while director Jesse Dylan (son of Bob) and crew filmed her interactions. A Marie Claire editor tagged along for part of Cameron’s trip- she offers a sneak peek in this month’s issue.
Cameron got inspired to take action after attending a TED conference of cutting-edge speakers.
“I was like, I’m going to get a camera, and I’m going to mobile-home it across the country, and I’m just going to find out what people are thinking. What would it take for the common person to become engaged?…There’s a lot of great minds out there who are thinking about this, who are coming up with solutions.”
Cameron, easy-going and friendly with the people she meets (many of them star-struck), speaks to residents living near an oil refinery near Houston, Texas and hears horror stories of an explosion, mysterious diseases in the community and a high depression and suicide rate.
She reveals that her childhood Long Beach, California neighborhood sat near a freeway and a polluting oil refinery- a location that caused Cameron to develop asthma and itchy eyes as a child.
“I could see the flame from the refinery burning from my bedroom window. I remember my dad dusting all the time from all the dirt that came in.”
