Tyra Banks Struggled With Being “Black and Curvy”

Tyra Banks is speaking out once again about her struggles with weight in her modeling days. Tyra tells New York Times Magazine that in the middle of her career her “biggest obstacle was that I was black and curvy.” She goes on to say that her agency at the time even made a list called “Designers who will not book Tyra because of hips and breasts.” Tyra says it was shortly after her agency tried to get her mom to put her on a diet that she started thinking about a career change.

Tyra goes on to say she still gets criticized because of her weight. You may recall the unflattering photos of her in the one piece swimsuit that surfaced all over the web. Tyra says, “It really made me angry. What bothered me is that they were saying there’s something wrong with a woman’s body if she’s not super-skinny.”

What do you all think? Even at her heaviest, do you think Tyra needed to lose weight? Is she a good weight for her height? Or, are you just sick of all the talk over her weight fluctuation?
