Selena Gomez Makes Film To Help Dogs and Cats of Puerto Rico

I love when young Hollywood uses their fame to make a difference.  I should also mention I’m a passionate animal lover.  So, when I heard that Selena Gomez had teamed up with her Wizards of Waverly High costar Jake T. Austin and DoSomething.org to help the many homeless dogs and cats in Puerto Rico, I was thrilled.

The 16-year-old actress filmed a short “Dog-umentary” to draw attention to the unfortunate lives of homeless animals living in the area.  According to JustJaredJr., Selena has rallied her friends — band Forever The Sickest Kids, Taylor Swift, Corbin Bleu and Rita Rocks star Nicole Sullivan — and teamed up with Charity Buzz to benefit Island Dog, Inc.

She had this to say on her MySpace page:

“Hey. I just wanted to let everyone know the new Charity Auction has launched. It runs until March 31st so be sure to check it out and get your parents permission to make a bid. Thank you all so much for being a part of this Charity Auction. Also whether you bid on something or not everyone can help. Go to www.islanddog.org to see all the different ways you can help the dogs and cats of Puerto Rico.”

I encourage all of you to take a look at this because it’s really a great cause.  Every little bit helps, even if you just print and send a pre-written letter to the governor of Puerto Rico (how easy is that?!).  And remember, if you’re not able to help with this particular cause, that doesn’t mean you can’t help at all.  Volunteer at your local animal shelter for just a few hours each week or drop off your old towels and blankets to help keep our furry friends warm at night.  It’s a great, and easy, way to make a difference in their lives and yours.
