Madonna Pledges $500,000 For Italy Earthquake Relief

The Material Girl is giving back to the home of her ancestors by pledging $500,000 to help aid in the earthquake relief initiative in Italy. Madonna has promised to help victims of the devastating earthquake said Fernando Caparso, mayor Pacentro, the village where two of Madonna’s grandparents were born.
Carparso told The Associated Press that that he had spoken to the pop star’s manager and that he was deeply moved by Madonna’s effort to assist the town as well as surrounding areas.
“Madonna was the only one who could help us. Other then being a great singer, a great rock star and an intelligent woman, with this gesture she has become a great woman.”
Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s spokesperson, confirmed that the star had pledged a “substantial amount,” in quake relief but did not disclose the exact figure.
In an interview with People magazine, Madonna said,
“I am happy to lend a helping hand to the town that my ancestors are from. My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones or their homes.”
And remember, you don’t have to give half a million dollars to help out in a time of need. Just donating your time or volunteering to help out when and where you can really makes a difference.
