Slim Down With Hot Chocolate?

Can hot chocolate really help you lose weight?  According to scientists at MIT, yes it can!  In a recent study, they found that the combination of cocoa powder and 8 oz of milk provides nearly half of the recommended dietary allowances of tryptophan, an amino acid needed to elevate your serotonin levels.  So what does serotonin have to do with losing weight?  The powerful neurotransmitter blocks the tendency to eat impulsively making it a natural appetite suppressant and mood regulator which can result in you slimming down!

The bottom line is that you can enjoy hot chocolate, just be careful to not overdo it.  You can also get the same serotonin boosting effects from other healthy foods such as bananas and oatmeal.

    Oh my gosh, you won’t believe this, but I’m actually sipping hot cocoa now! I was cold and work and craving something sweet, so I have cup of hot water and 1/2 packet of hot cocoa (I find that the whole packet makes it too sugary for me.)

    Sounds like next time I should get some milk in the mix (literally, har har)!

I actually have a friend who has a cup every single night before bed. She’s super healthy and super fit so it’s obviously working for her!
