Pam Anderson Can Still Do THIS at 41! Can You?
This is a shot of Pam Anderson on Big Brother Australia this past week doing a full out split! I have to say, I’m impressed!! And a tad jealous. I used to be super flexible when I was younger and it’s one of those things that slid through the cracks over time.
When it comes to the Big 3 of exercise—cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training—it’s pretty clear which one can get overlooked. After all, while we prize cardiovascular and strength training for their role in helping us lose weight, build muscle and get fit, the benefits of flexibility training are less immediately alluring. However, the list of benefits is long and includes preventing injuries, improving athletic performance, and giving your muscles that long, lean look you desire!
Here are some tips for increasing your flexibility:
- Stretch gently. Never force a stretch. Doing so damages muscle fiber, and may even tear connective tissue from the bone.
- Don’t bounce. Yes, some folks do get decent results with “dynamic stretching.” However, this is risky and you are better off just taking your time to reach your flexibility goals.
- Hold a stretch for 45 to 60 seconds, then relax the part being stretched. If you alternate one minute of stretching with one minute of rest, you will see much faster results than doing one long period of stretching. And, it won’t hurt as much.
- Make it a habit. Do some sort of flexibility exercise daily. Stretch as soon as you get up to get your day started on the right foot or use stretching to unwind at night right before you hop into bed. Consistency is really key when it comes to increasing your flexibility.
Do you have any tips to add? How do you manage to stay flexible?

I can not do anything near a split, and I do a fair amount of yoga! I used to be able something close to one when I danced, but not anymore… Cynthia I’d be totally up for a Split Challenge!!! That sounds like such a great idea!
