5 Easy Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

One of the most common reasons people give for not being able to lose weight is that they have a slow metabolism.  Well, no more!  Here are 5 wonderful tips to help boost your metabolism and burn that fat!

1.  Detox. Now I’m not talking about those crazy lemon and cayenne pepper diets or fasting.  Those things never work.  I’m talking about simply adding detoxifying herbs to your food or taking them as a nutritional supplement.  Herbs such as cinnamon, basil, dandelion root, milk thistle, and green tea extract are wonderful for cleansing. How does this help boost your metabolism?  Well… getting rid of excess toxins is the job of the liver.  The liver is also responsible for metabolizing fat.  If the liver has to deal with an excess amount of toxins, it’s ability to metabolize fat is diminished.  So give your liver a little help and speed up your metabolism at the same time!

2.  Eat breakfast. Studies indicate that eating breakfast may increase resting metabolism by 10 percent and reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.

3. Eat smaller meals more frequently. Smaller, more frequent meals keeps your blood sugar stable and provides a steady source of energy to fuel metabolism.

4.  Lift weights to build muscle. A pound of muscle consumes twice as many calories as a pound of fat.  Muscle burns fat even when you’re just resting!

5. Eat lean protein.  It takes more energy for the body to digest protein than carbohydrate or fat. Studies have shown that people who eat  more protein burn more than twice as many calories in the hours following their meal as those eating a high carbohydrate diet.

Bonus Tip: Water, water, water!!
You’ve heard it before, but drink those 8 8-ounce glasses of water every day.  This will ensure that your body is able to detoxify itself, remain properly hydrated, and keep our liver functioning properly which is the key to the body’s ability to metabolize fat.
