Should We Label Retouched Photos?

redbook-faith-hill

The retouching debate continues- this time in France. A member of the French parliament has proposed a law that all digitally retouched images would be labeled with the word ‘retouched.’

Valerie Boyer, the parliament member behind the proposed legislation (she’s also mother to two teenage girls), says in today’s New York Times, “I buy tons of women’s magazines. I love fashion and I love life. But it seems to me that as a matter of professional ethics, you have to warn people that the image of the body has been modified.”

Given all of the talk about airbrushing this year- from Kelly Clarkson to Kim Kardashian to Kate Winslet to Demi Moore- do you think that such a law would clear up the body image misconceptions out there?
