Rumer Willis Says No To The ‘Stick-Skinny’ Trend In Hollywood

Rumer Willis has two superstar parents and one of the most famous families in the world. And now she’s using her influence to send a positive message about body image to women and girls everywhere.

“One of the most important things that I would love to do if I get to continue doing this job is to be a really positive role model for young women about their body image and about eating,” says Rumer of her career as an actress.

She’s speaking out against the extreme thinness that’s common in Hollywood and calling for a shift in the thinking of the younger generation.

“I want to start giving girls a better body image…You don’t need to be [thin]to be beautiful or perfect or to fit in. What you are is exactly what you should be. You can’t let other people dictate your life or tell you how to feel about yourself because then you’re not living.

“I have two younger sisters in high school and they talk about image all the time. Girls need to have a better body image. The stars out there now, they don’t need to be stick-skinny to the point you can see their bones through your skin. It’s not a good look.”

Seems that Rumer’s famous parents also instilled in her the body confidence that she needs to show Hollywood that healthy bodies are beautiful at all sizes. We hope that she continues speaking out!

Good for her! This reminds me of Kelly Clarkson recently taking a magazine to task for eliminating, digitally, some of her poundage. The madness has to stop — we need to learn to love our bodies and our lives! Sarah Maria makes this point in a great book, “Love Your Body, Love Your life.” She has a tried and proven method for overcoming negative body obsession, no matter what your body size and shape. We have got to let go of a lot of this stuff, including the stuff you cannot possibly change, such as height.
