For Evangeline Lilly, Lost is a Means to Charitable Work- Not Stardom

Evangeline Lilly experienced success and a straight shot to stardom after the series Lost took off with television audiences back in 2005. I’m sure that you- or someone you know- has tuned into that Lost obsession at one time or another. But Evangeline tells Women’s Health magazine that her television career has two sides. She’s using her top-dollar actress earnings to further her humanitarian efforts, not the other way around.

“The show was a rare opportunity, but there were ulterior motives. I knew if I did this for five or six years, what it would result in. The good that I have been able to do has been worth the sacrifice. Ultimately, acting is not my passion. It’s my day job.

Woman’s Health says that Evangeline has been doing humanitarian work in Rwanda for the past seven years.

Evangeline says that she’s not about to turn into a red carpet diva in the future- she’s staying true to her charitable ambitions while enjoying the success of Lost.

“They’ve seen that I haven’t picked up on the opportunity to become a big movie star…My producer Bryan Burk is always like, ‘My God, the opportunities you have!’ It frustrates him that they’ve given me this chance to become the next Angelina Jolie [and I haven't gone after it]. Sure, I’d love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side.”

Clearly Evangeline breaks the mold in the actress category- and we love her ambitions. Let’s hope that she brings much-needed attention to the charitable organizations that she supports.
