Denise Richards On Taking Time for Herself

Denise Richards told Self Magazine in a recent interview that she’s learned the importance of focusing on her own well-being. Lately, Denise has been the target of many news stories and even scandals (I think dating her best friend’s soon to be ex-husband and allegedly asking her own ex-husband for his sperm to have another baby qualify). But, through it all, the actress says she has learned how to “embrace the stress, cope with it, and let it go.” Denise says she gets up around 5am every morning, while her daughters are still sleeping, and spends time answering emails or checking in with her sister. She says,

“I cherish this time by myself. It’s the only part of my day that I can think clearly.”

Denise says after this quiet time for self-reflection in the morning, she’s ready to face anything.

“Finding something you love to do, then doing it, isn’t selfish. It’s a necessity. You can’t help others if you’re burned out.”

Remember, being healthy involves your body AND your mind. It’s so important to take time out to care for ourselves during each day. Something like exercising, reading a book, taking a bath, playing a musical instrument, or meditation helps keep you grounded and clears your mind so you can deal with anything that may arise during your busy days. Many people say that they don’t have the time or they can’t afford to take the time out but I say you can’t afford not too! Studies have shown that when people take the necessary time for themselves, they deal with stressful situations and make important decisions easier and faster. Keep in mind, you don’t have to take hours for “me time” (although you certainly can). Just 10 – 20 minutes of meditation really helps you refocus and clear your mind.

I love to take time out for meditating, doing yoga, or soaking in a hot bath of sea salts. What are some of the ways you embrace your “me time”?
