Celeb Trainer Exclusive: How Brett Hoebel Gets Victoria’s Secret in Shape

au_melandro

If you’re wondering where Victoria’s Secret models Karolina Kurkova and Doutzen Kroes get their famous figures- with body confidence to match, meet Brett Hoebel. Brett’s the trainer-to-the-stars who will chat with you between exercise circuits (even tell you jokes, he admits), earn your trust, and above all get you looking fit for the red carpet or runway, if that’s where you’re headed.

Just how does a Victoria’s Secret body take shape?

Brett starts fine-tuning his clients weeks ahead of an important event or photo shoot by cross-training them to balance strength training (for toned muscles), with cardio training (for endurance) and interval training (for a revved-up the metabolism).

“It’s the cross-training that’s key. It doesn’t let your body adapt to one stimulus too much and it keeps your workouts exciting. Structure your cross-training appropriately by alternating the intensity of your sessions so you work, recover, work, recover.”  Take a yoga class one day, work with your trainer the next, run outside, go on a snowboarding trip- you get the picture.

Then there’s diet. It’s fifty percent of the battle, according to Brett. “I say, stay away from white devils: white sugar, white flour, white milk, white salt and white rice. And drink at least three liters of water a day to flush things out. As we get closer to the event we taper the water off.”

Overall it’s the lean muscle that gets the calories burning, and burning fat emphasizes muscle definition that might otherwise remain hidden. Just what the trainer ordered for a body that’s runway-bound!

Brett’s holistic approach to fitness might be the biggest reason that his clients keep coming back. His additional certifications as Nutrition and Lifestyle coach, Holistic Exercise Kinesiologist and Hatha Yoga instructor go a long way toward understanding the body as a whole.

“As a trainer you need to learn the science of the body, the nuts and bolts and the hardware of the craft: anatomy, physiology, physics, biomechanics. But there’s a personal level to training as well, because at the end of the day you’re dealing with humans, not computers. Understanding that is how you get results.”
