3 Steps to Get Carrie Underwood’s Body

Carrie Underwood looked amazing at the Academy of Country Music Awards last night!  So how does the songbird keep in such great shape?  The singer tells us three things she does to maintain her lean body.

  1. Write Down Everything - Carrie is religious about keeping a daily food journal.  She writes down every single thing that goes into her mouth and when it’s time for dinner, she can see at a glance how many calories she’s consumed that day and what her dinner should look like.  For example, if she had a big lunch with a chocolate dessert, she’ll opt for big salad for dinner.
  2. Don’t Eat Meat – Yep, this one is a bit drastic for most people but Carrie has been a vegetarian since 13 and doesn’t eat any meat products.  She eats lots of vegetarian burgers and meat substitutes for protein.
  3. Get Professional Help – When Carrie decided to get serious about fitness, she enlisted the help of a personal trainer to keep her on track.  They even built a mini gym in her home so that no matter how busy her schedule gets, she can always work out conveniently.

It’s great that she keeps a food journal and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to lose weight.  We often forget about the handful of candy we nabbed from our co-workers dish or that pick me up coffee with hazelnut creamer and those things can add up quickly!  Writing everything down helps you to better see the big picture and identify some pitfalls of your diet.

I also think that everyone should have at least one set of dumbbells at home to help keep them on track with their workouts.  If you don’t feel like going to they gym or find yourself without a lot of time, you can still do a series of great exercises using dumbbells and your own body weight.

As far as not eating meat, I’m absolutely an animal lover and give kudos to anyone who doesn’t eat meat.  At the same time, I know it’s not practical or an option for many so let me just say that you can get lots of great lean protein whether you eat meat or not.  If you do choose to eat meat, opt for the leaner versions and watch your portion sizes.
